Rahul Dravid became the head coach of Rajasthan Royals, returned after 9 years

Rahul Dravid, who was the head coach of the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup 2024, has become the head coach of Rajasthan Royals. IPL franchise Rajasthan announced this on Friday. Dravid, who took a break after India’s title win in Barbados in June, will start working on important issues like player retention ahead of the IPL 2025 auction later this year.

Kumar Sangakkara, who has been the Royals’ Director of Cricket for the last three years, will continue in this role. Former India cricketer Rahul Dravid was the captain of the Royals in 2012 and 2013 and was also a mentor for two years. He then joined the Delhi Capitals in 2016 and was the head of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He left the NCA in 2021 to become the head coach of the Indian team, replacing Ravi Shastri. On his return to Rajasthan Royals, Rahul Dravid said, “I am happy to be back to the franchise that I have called my ‘home’ for the last several years. After the World Cup, I feel this is the ideal time for me to take on another challenge, and the Royals are the perfect place to do so.”

According to the report, RR can also include Vikram Rathore as Dravid’s assistant coaches. Rathore has previously been a selector of the Indian team as well as a part of Dravid’s coaching staff at the NCA. Royals’ Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara said, “Rahul is one of the greatest players to have played this game, but what he has achieved over the last decade as a coach is extraordinary. The attributes he possesses as a coach to nurture talent and enable them to consistently perform at the highest level will enable Rajasthan Royals to challenge further for the title.”
