highlights

Ashwini Vaishnav became cabinet minister in 2021
Vaishnav is considered close to PM Narendra Modi
The total share of Brahmins in the population of Rajasthan is about 7 to 7.5 percent.

Jaipur. Assembly elections are to be held in Rajasthan this year. For the assembly elections 2023, both the major political parties Congress and BJP are fighting for the projection of the next Chief Minister. Recently, in the Brahmin Mahapanchayat held in the capital Jaipur, a Union Minister has been projected as the next Chief Minister of Rajasthan. This is the name of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav. Although it is a matter of fact that he comes from Jodhpur and another Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat of Jodhpur is also a veteran leader of BJP. This ‘projection’ of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in Brahmin Mahapanchayat has its own political meaning and now new political equations are being formed.

Ashwini Vaishnav had attended the Brahmin Mahapanchayat as the chief guest. Vaishnav was included in the cabinet by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2021. His political career is also not that long but his short but effective speech given in Mahapanchayat exposed his political efficiency. He addressed this public meeting in the familiar style of PM Modi. During this, he also urged the people to address him not as ‘Sir’ or ‘Ashwiniji’ but as Ashwini Bhai. In the Brahmin Mahapanchayat, he also issued a postage stamp on Lord Parshuram.

The share of Brahmins in the population of Rajasthan is 7 to 7.5 percent.
It is noteworthy that the share of Brahmins in the population of Rajasthan is 7 to 7.5 percent. Most of the Chief Ministers of Rajasthan have also been coming from this community. However, it is a different matter that the last time the Chief Minister was made here 33 years ago from the Brahmin community. In Rajasthan, Muslims and Jats have more population than Brahmins. But so far only one Muslim has been able to reach the post of Chief Minister. At the same time, the Jat community is still waiting for the Jat Chief Minister. Out of the first four Chief Ministers of Rajasthan, three were Brahmins.

Three of the first four CMs of Rajasthan were Brahmins.
Among them, the first Chief Minister was Hiralal Shastri, the third was Jaynarayan Vyas and the fourth was Tikaram Paliwal. Of these, only the other Chief Minister C.S. Venkatachari was the only exception who remained Chief Minister for only 4 months in 1951. The last Brahmin Chief Minister was Haridev Joshi. He was the Chief Minister three times till 1990. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav comes from Jodhpur. Apart from him, there are two other veteran politicians. Among them are the current Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Ghanshyam Tiwari has been MLA for 6 times
In the present era, a veteran leader of Brahmins is Ghanshyam Tiwari. He has been MLA for 6 times. He had formed his own party due to differences with the then Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. When his party failed in the 2018 elections, he joined the Congress. However, as soon as he returned to the BJP again last year, the party sent him to the Rajya Sabha as an MP. At present, his age is more than 75 years.

Vaishnav Pradesh emerges as a fresh face for BJP
Other Brahmin faces in the BJP who appeared in the mahapanchayat include Jaipur MP Ramcharan Bohra, Chittorgarh MP CP Joshi and Chaumun MLA Ramlal Sharma, BJP’s chief spokesperson. During the Brahmin Mahapanchayat, Ashwini Vaishnav Pradesh has emerged as a fresh-face for the BJP. In such a situation, Vaishnav, who is considered close to Prime Minister Modi, is seen laying a new political board.

Vaishnav became Rajya Sabha MP from Odisha in 2019
Before being elected as Rajya Sabha MP from Odisha in July 2019, Ashwini Vaishnav has taken up many big responsibilities as a bureaucrat (IAS officer). He has also been the private secretary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2004. However, it is not easy to project Ashwini Vaishnav as the next Chief Minister. Many strong leaders from his own party are already present in the Chief Minister’s race. Apart from former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Bhupendra Yadav and State BJP President Satish Poonia are included in these.
