New Delhi: A campaign to make India ‘drug free’ has started in Delhi University from Friday. For this, ‘UDGAAR Youth Festival 2024’ was organized with the joint efforts of ISKCON and Delhi University. India TV Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Rajat Sharma attended the fest as the chief guest. Addressing the people on this occasion, Rajat Sharma said that coming to DU feels like coming back home. He said that today he is happy that so many youth have joined the war against drugs.

‘Drug addiction is a big concern today’

Addressing the youth, Rajat Sharma said, ‘Today drug addiction is a big concern, but if the youth of our country are standing against this addiction, then it reduces my worries. If there is any biggest ideal for today’s youth then it is Lord Shri Krishna. There is no character like the character of Lord Shri Krishna. If someone wants to get intoxicated then he should get intoxicated by devotion to Lord Shri Krishna. I am happy that ISKCON organized this program among students like you.

‘I never thought that I would come on TV’

Rajat Sharma said, ‘I studied in SRCC, that is why I have reached this position today. Life is not as good as it looks on TV. I never thought that I would ever be on TV. My childhood was spent in great deprivation. Our family of 10 people lived in a small room in the vegetable market. The roof used to leak during rains, water had to be brought from outside. There were lights at the nearby railway station, I used to go there to study. I am telling you all this so that you also work hard. Dream about doing something. Don’t dream of becoming something, dream of doing something.

‘Babuji had said that being happy in absence is the challenge.’

Chairman of India TV said, ‘One day I told Babuji that you say to be happy, but how can I be happy in such a situation? Then Babuji said that the challenge is to be happy in absence. After all the comforts, everyone remains happy. I believe that the soil of our country has the power to give opportunities to the poorest of the poor. The soil of this country even made a poor tea seller the Prime Minister. There was no TV in our house. We used to go to the neighbor’s house to watch TV. One day when I went to my neighbor’s house to watch TV, they closed the window. When I told this to Babuji, he said do something such that you come on TV and the world sees you.

‘Delhi University changed my destiny’

Recalling his days spent in Delhi University, Rajat Sharma said, ‘This Delhi University changed my destiny. This university taught me to stay awake all night to dream. Many times youth ask why we are not able to stop drugs? Punjab is an example of this. Families are being ruined. There is a fear that our youth might get lost under the influence of drugs. But when I see you in such numbers, this fear disappears. A hope arises.

‘Real happiness lies in devotion to Lord Krishna’

Rajat Sharma while calling upon the youth to worship Lord Krishna said, ‘Two things are clear in our mind. Pain and pleasure are different, but drug makers have shown that there is pleasure in pain also. I would like to tell the youth that real happiness lies in devotion to Lord Krishna. I assure you that I will take your campaign wherever it needs to be in the world through media.
