New Delhi: A decision of BJP has increased people’s interest in the Rajya Sabha elections of Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. In fact, on the last day of nomination, BJP has made the contest interesting by fielding Harsh Mahajan from Himachal Pradesh, while in Uttar Pradesh also the party has created a political stir by fielding the 8th candidate. This step taken towards the end of nominations has increased people’s interest in the Rajya Sabha elections in these two states.
Harsh Mahajan filed nomination on Thursday
Let us tell you that elections are to be held on a Rajya Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh and till Wednesday this seat seemed to be going to the Congress. Now, on the last day of nomination, BJP has fielded its candidate, after which it has become clear that the Rajya Sabha seat in Himachal too will be decided by voting. Now BJP’s Harsh Mahajan is in the fray against Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi on this seat. On the second day of the budget session, BJP leader Harsh Mahajan filed his nomination at the Assembly Secretariat. During this time, many BJP leaders including former CM Jairam Thakur were present with him.
BJP hopes for cross voting
Earlier it was expected that BJP would not field its candidate against the Congress candidate, but due to the ongoing tussle between the Congress, the party took this decision. Harsh Mahajan was earlier in Congress and on 28 September 2022, he said goodbye to the party and joined BJP. Harsh was considered very close to former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. On one hand, there is a tussle between the organization and the government in Himachal Congress, while on the other hand, Pratibha Singh often keeps making statements against the government. BJP hopes that angry Congress MLAs can do cross voting.
BJP’s 8th candidate brought a twist in UP
BJP has made the Rajya Sabha battle interesting by fielding its 8th candidate in UP also. BJP has made Sanjay Seth its eighth candidate from UP. Due to the nomination of Sanjay Seth, who was the treasurer of Samajwadi Party, the matter of Akhilesh Yadav’s third Rajya Sabha candidate seems to be stuck. There is uneasiness in SP due to this decision of BJP because elections are to be held on 10 Rajya Sabha seats of UP and the mathematics of 9 seats is clear. BJP has the numbers to win for 7 candidates, while SP can also make its candidates win on 2 seats, but neither party has the complete numbers for the 10th seat.
