Navrangpur: A surprising case has come to light from Papadahandi in Navrangpur, Odisha. Here, due to religious conversion, a person’s body was not given a place to bury it for about 32 hours. The villagers did not allow the dead body to be buried in their crematorium as only Hindus are cremated there. It was only when the Additional Tehsildar and the police intervened in the matter that the body could be buried.

What is the whole matter?

According to the information, about 2 years ago Domu Jani of Pandikot village had abandoned Hindu religion and converted to Christianity. Domu Jani passed away yesterday morning. Due to religious conversion, the family members were worried about where to bury the dead body.

When the family requested the villagers to provide space in the village crematorium, they did not allow space for the grave. No one even came forward to shoulder the dead body.

Additional Tehsildar and policemen also reached the spot and tried to convince the villagers but the villagers did not agree. After a long debate the villagers agreed. After which the Additional Tehsildar fixed a place.

When no one was coming forward to lend a shoulder, some local journalists stepped forward and shouldered the body. Seeing the journalists, other villagers also came forward and the body was finally buried 32 hours after death.

Speaking on the matter, Additional Tehsildar said, ‘We had received news that the villagers were refusing to bury the body of a deceased person in the crematorium and were not providing space because he had converted to Christianity a few days ago. As soon as we got the news of the matter, we reached Pandikot village and talked to the villagers. The villagers did not agree for a long time. Ultimately we provided a government place to the family and the body is being buried on government land. (Shubham Kumar reports from Odisha)

Statement of Additional Tehsildar (Paprahandi) Sasmita Kumari Jena came out.
