RG Kar Medical College has a dark past, a series of mysterious deaths for 23 years; allegations of pornography have also been made

RG Kar Medical College: RG Kar Medical College of Kolkata is in the news these days. The whole country is angry over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor inside the medical college. However, this is not the first time that a murder has taken place in RG Kar Medical College. This medical college has a long history of about 23 years regarding such incidents. There have even been allegations of pornography being present in RG Kar Medical College. But the police never investigated the matter with full seriousness. If we include the case of the trainee doctor, then a total of six such incidents have taken place here since then. The mystery of these incidents has been swinging between murder and suicide. Let’s take a look…

Soumitra Biswas case of 2001
The first such incident in RG Kar Medical College happened in the year 2001. On 25th August that year, the body of a medical student was found hanging in his hostel room. The name of this medical student was Soumitra Biswas. At that time, fellow students had alleged that Soumitra’s death was not a suicide. According to an old report of Times of India, these students had made a sensational revelation that pornography was practiced in the hostel. They had told that sex workers were brought here for shooting. According to the students, Soumitra wanted to raise his voice against this and after this he was killed. In this case, many allegations were also made against the police. It is said that despite finding a tripod and reflector in the room next to Soumitra, the police did not investigate properly. The police closed the case calling it a suicide. Later, the case was reopened under pressure from the family.

2003 suicide
Similarly, in 2003, a house staff of RG Kar Medical College committed suicide. The 24-year-old man’s name was Arijit Dutta and he was a resident of Bamanpura, Suri in Birbhum district. His roommates and other batchmates said that he was of a very reserved nature. Arijit committed suicide by jumping from the hostel roof. First he cut the vein of his hand twice and then jumped down from the roof. At that time also, some students had linked Arijit’s suicide with Soumitra’s murder in 2001, but the investigation was not done at that level. Police said that after jumping from the roof, he was immediately taken to the emergency, where he died at midnight.

Mysterious death of professor in 2016
Similarly, in 2016, the decomposed body of a 54-year-old professor of RG Kar Medical College was recovered from his rented house. Professor Dr. Gautam Pal was the department head of Unit Number Six of the medical college. He was on a roster on Saturday, but he did not return to the medical college after Thursday. On Sunday, the neighbors complained of a foul smell coming from the house. After this, the police reached the spot, broke the door and took out the body. According to the police, his body was lying on the floor of the room and there were some marks on his face. The police also did not rule out the possibility of major cardiac arrest.

Suicide of a female doctor in 2020
In the year 2020, a female trainee doctor committed suicide at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. 25-year-old Palomi Saha jumped from the roof of the emergency building. She was immediately taken to the emergency, but her life could not be saved. Police said that the female doctor was suffering from depression for the last few days. Due to this, she committed suicide by jumping from the roof. However, the police did not recover any suicide note.

Mysterious death of intern in 2023
