Sandeshkhali case: SC stays the proceedings of the Privilege Committee of Lok Sabha – India TV Hindi

New Delhi: The West Bengal government has got a big relief from the Supreme Court in the Sandeshkhali case of West Bengal. The Supreme Court has stayed the Lok Sabha Privileges Committee investigation against several top officials of the Bengal government. Court has given interim order

A bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud passed the interim order while issuing notice on the writ petition filed by Chief Secretary Bhagwati Prasad Gopalika, Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar and three other officers. Let us tell you that in the petition, the jurisdiction of the Privileges Committee of the Lok Sabha was challenged and after this it was argued that this committee does not extend to political activities.

Complaint of police atrocities is false – lawyer

The petition was filed by Bhagwati Prasad Gopalika, Sharad Kumar Dwivedi (District Magistrate, North 24 Parganas District), Rajeev Kumar, Dr. Hussain Mehedi Rehman (Superintendent of Police, Basirhat, North 24 Parganas District) and Partha Ghosh (Additional SP) Basirhat, North 24 Parganas District. ) was filed by. Senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing the officers, argued that Majumdar’s complaint of police atrocities was false and the video showed BJP supporters attacking police officers. His argument was that the officers were not present at the spot.

‘The officers were not called as accused’

In response, senior advocate Devashish Bharukha, representing the Lok Sabha Secretariat, clarified that the officials were not called as accused and notices were issued to find out the facts. The Supreme Court issued a notice returnable within four weeks and stayed further proceedings against the state officials based on the notice issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
