Wrestler-turned-politician Vinesh Phogat has made a big statement about not winning a medal in the Olympics 2024. She said that those who were happy with her defeat in the Paris Olympics should be prosecuted for treason, as it has insulted the country. Vinesh said this in a conversation with India Today TV. She said, ‘Such statements have been coming for the last one and a half years. This shows their mentality. If it is being said that they are happy that I did not win the Olympics, then a case of treason is made against them. This medal was not mine but of the whole country. That is why they have insulted the nation.’

Congress on Friday released its first list of 32 candidates for the Haryana assembly elections, in which her name was also included among the party candidates. Olympian wrestler Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat were at the forefront of the wrestlers’ protest against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. She started her political innings by joining the Congress on Friday.
