Colombo: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dr Subramanian Swamy met former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa here on Thursday. Swamy has become the first foreign guest to meet ousted Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa after his return home. Facing protests, Rajapaksa left the country for failing to deal with the worst economic crisis in Sri Lanka.

Subramanian Swamy, a close friend of the Rajapaksa family, has arrived in Sri Lanka to attend a conference on national security at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University. Sources said on Thursday that Swamy had met Gotabaya’s brother Mahinda Rajapaksa on Wednesday and attended the Navratri puja at his residence.

“Swamy attended the Navratri puja held at the official residence of Mahinda Rajapaksa on Wednesday night and he met Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Thursday morning,” he said.
