Konetti Adimoolam suspended from TDP

Telugu Desam Party has suspended Satyavedu MLA Konethi Adimulam from the party. A woman leader of TDP has leveled serious allegations of sexual harassment against Konethi. The victim had appealed to the party’s national president and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to take action against the accused MLA. Reacting to the complaint, the top leadership of TDP took immediate action against the MLA. Andhra Pradesh TDP president Palla Srinivas Rao issued a statement on Thursday, just hours after the allegations surfaced, announcing the suspension of Adimulam from the party.

66-year-old Adimulam had recently won the election from Satyavedu Assembly constituency in Tirupati district on a TDP ticket. The allegations against him have created a stir in political circles. The victim TDP worker has accused the MLA of continuous harassment and sexual exploitation for the last few months.

The victim narrated her ordeal

Speaking to media representatives, the victim narrated her ordeal. She said, “Initially, he would call me for election campaigning and other party-related work. However, I soon realised that his intentions were not professional. He would call me continuously, sometimes up to 100 times in a night. Once, he even called me to a hotel in Tirupati and forced me to perform sexual acts.” The woman alleged that Adimulam threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about his misdeeds. She said, “He threatened to kill me and my family members if I told anything. Given his position as an MLA, I kept quiet fearing for my family’s safety.”

Concern for other women

The victim said she decided to come out in the open because Adimulam’s behaviour was becoming increasingly unbearable. She also expressed concern for other women in Satyavedu constituency. “Hopefully my decision will save other women from falling prey to such a leader,” the woman leader said.

Adimulam had changed sides and joined TDP

Adimulam had earlier won the 2019 elections as a YSRC candidate. He joined TD after YSRC chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy denied him a ticket in the recently held elections.
