Setback to India’s alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba’s PDP preparing to fight alone

The India Alliance that was formed in the Lok Sabha elections is seen falling apart in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. The National Conference and PDP, who were seen together on the platform of the India Alliance, are seen drifting apart. When former Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti was asked about the alliance in the Assembly elections today, she said, “We have always fought alone. Ever since our party was formed, we have fought alone and with the support of the people. We have fought to alleviate the sufferings of the people.”

Let us tell you that Congress and National Conference have formed an alliance in Jammu and Kashmir. There has been an agreement on seats between the two. After this, Omar Abdullah had said that if any party wants to join hands, it is welcome. Now it is clear from the statement of PDP that these three parties are not going to contest the elections together.

Mehbooba’s daughter filed nomination from Bijbehara seat

Iltija Mufti, daughter of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, on Tuesday became the third generation leader of the Mufti family to contest elections. Iltija filed her nomination as a PDP candidate from Bijbehara assembly seat, the party’s stronghold in Jammu and Kashmir. Accompanied by her mother Mehbooba Mufti and hundreds of supporters, Iltija Mufti filed her nomination for the Bijbehara assembly seat. This seat has been represented by her family’s close leader Abdul Rehman Veeri for the last four terms.

Talking to reporters after filing her nomination, Iltija Mufti said she would raise the issue of “injustice and oppression of the people of Kashmir” in the assembly. She said, “I have always stood with the truth and will continue to do so.”

Iltija Mufti said that this is a very emotional moment for her because her mother Mehbooba Mufti and maternal grandfather Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had also entered the electoral fray for the first time from Bijbehara seat. Sayeed had won this seat in South Kashmir in 1962, while Mehbooba Mufti entered electoral politics by winning this seat in 1996.
