Padma Awards 2023: People associated with ancient medical systems Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Homeopathy etc. coming under AYUSH are not only taking the health sector to a new level but are also being honored with Padma Awards, one of the highest honors of the country. Padma Awards are being given to three winners associated with AYUSH. These include experts ranging from Ayurveda experts to Ayurvedic surgery experts before suggesting the option of Ayurvedic medicine during the corona.
Along with popularizing AYUSH systems, Kamlesh Patel has been awarded the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to their growth. He is the President of Shri Ram Chandra Mission, Hyderabad. Whereas Dr. Manoranjan Sahu is being given Padma Shri. He is a well-known surgeon of Ayurveda. While the third award is being given to Dr. Gopalsamy Veluchami for Padma Shri. Apart from being an experienced doctor, he was the first to suggest the medicine for Corona.

On the other hand, Dr. Manoranjan Sahu has been awarded Padma Shri for medicine and he is an expert in Ayurvedic surgery, who has an experience of about 40 years. Former Dean of Faculty of Ayurveda, IMS, Varanasi and former Director of AIIA, New Delhi, Dr. Sahu is known for his contribution in the field of Shalya Tantra (Ayurveda). He has selflessly treated the poor and weaker sections of the society at an affordable cost and is still doing so.
Padma Shri awardee Dr. Gopalasamy Veluchamy has served as the Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Central Council for Research in Siddha, the apex body for Siddha research of the Ministry of AYUSH, from 2018 to 2021. Presently he is the Honorary President of Siddha Pharmacopoeia Society, Chennai. Dr. Veluchamy was one of the first to suggest ‘Kabasurakudiner’ as a potential drug for COVID-19 management.
Significantly, the Ministry of AYUSH organized a felicitation ceremony on Tuesday evening to honor the 2023 Padma awardees who have contributed in the field of AYUSH. During this, AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonowal honored all the three Padma awardees by giving them citations. During this, Sonowal said that the achievements of the Padma awardees are an inspiration to all of us and their unwavering commitment to excellence sets a shining example for the entire country.
