SP leader Azam Khan appeared in court in 2 old cases, next hearing on November 3 and 4

Moradabad (UP). Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Tuesday appeared in Moradabad’s MP-MLA court (MP-MLA court) in two old cases, including making derogatory remarks against cine actress and former Rampur MP Jaya Prada. The court has fixed November 3 and 4 for the next hearing of both the cases. Khan appeared in a Moradabad court in connection with a 2019 case related to making indecent remarks against Jaya Prada and another 2008 case involving a sit-in in Chajalat area to protest a police operation to check her vehicle.

Khan’s counsel Shahnawaz said the court accepted his appeal to appear with facts in his defense and fixed November 3 and 4, respectively, for hearing in the cases related to Chajalat and Jaya Prada. The advocate said that Khan would appear on the next two dates. Khan was on Thursday sentenced to three years in jail by the Rampur MP/MLA court in a 2019 hate speech case. As per the provisions, he was disqualified as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly a day after the order. The court had on Thursday convicted Khan for making inflammatory speeches and sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 6,000.

Azam Khan did not talk to journalists, returned to Rampur
The Representation of the People Act states that any person sentenced to two years or more shall be disqualified for membership of the Legislature “from the date of such conviction” and shall be disqualified for six years after serving time in prison. will go. In 2008, a case was registered against Khan and his supporters after police stopped them to check vehicles and SP leaders and supporters staged a sit-in in Chhajlait area on the Haridwar highway. In 2019, another case was registered against Jaya Prada for making derogatory remarks at a public function here. Azam Khan did not interact with the journalists and immediately left for Rampur after the court proceedings. Local Samajwadi Party workers said that their leader was not feeling well, so he would not hold talks. Khan’s son and Samajwadi Party MLA Abdullah Azam and several other supporters accompanied him to the court.
