It is reported that the apex court has also sought a report from the Karnataka High Court in this regard. The apex court says that guidelines are needed for the comments made by judges in the court.
A five-judge bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud has admitted that there is a need for clear guidelines regarding comments. The bench comprised Justice S Khanna, Justice BR Gavai, Justice S Kant, Justice H Roy. The apex court says that when the court proceedings are monitored by social media, it is important to ensure that judicial comments are in accordance with decorum.
The apex court said, ‘Some comments made by Justice V Srishanand of Karnataka High Court have been brought to our notice. We ask the AG and SG to cooperate with us. After receiving administrative instructions from the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court, we want the Registrar General of the High Court to submit a report to this court. This work should be done within 2 weeks.’
