Tirupati Laddu controversy

The Supreme Court has ordered to form a new SIT (Special Investigation Team) on the Tirupati Laddu controversy. The Supreme Court has said that a five-member investigation team should be formed. This team should include two officers from CBI, two officers from the state government and one officer from FSSAI. The CBI Director will monitor this investigation. During the hearing, the Supreme Court said, “We cannot allow the court to be transformed into a platform for political battle.” Earlier this case was being investigated by Andhra Pradesh government officials, but the Supreme Court said that the state government’s SIT will not investigate the allegations of adulteration in the ghee used in making Tirupati Balaji Prasad and gave instructions regarding the formation of a new SIT. .

Several petitions were filed in the Supreme Court regarding the Tirupati Temple Laddoo Prasad controversy. The bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Vishwanathan, while hearing these petitions, has directed to form a new investigation team.

What happened during the hearing?

On behalf of the petitioner, Kapil Sibal told the court that again a statement was issued in this regard yesterday. Sibal demanded that the court should hand over the responsibility of investigating this case to an independent investigating agency instead of SIT. The court asked the Solicitor General that it would be better if there is an independent investigation. Central officials and state officials should be involved in this. Andhra Pradesh government’s lawyer said that if the court wants to add any officer to the SIT, then he has no problem.

Don’t want political drama- Court

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that there is no doubt on the capability of the SIT. We want that a senior officer of the Central Police Force should be entrusted with the supervision of the investigation. He said, “I investigated the issue. One thing is clear that if there is any grain of truth in this allegation then it is unacceptable. There are devotees all over the country. Food safety is also important. I am aware of the investigation being conducted by the SIT members. No objection.” The court said that this is a matter of faith of crores of people. We do not want this to become a political drama. The court suggested that a SIT of 5 people could be formed, which would include two CBI officers and a member of FSSAI.
