The Supreme Court has upheld the decision to acquit six accused, including former MP Suraj Bhan Singh, in the murder case of former Bihar strongman minister Brij Bihari Prasad, but has convicted two accused, including former MLA Munna Shukla. At this time, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Munna Shukla, who recently contested elections from Vaishali Lok Sabha seat, will have to go to jail. 26 years ago, on June 13, 1998, Brij Bihari Prasad, admitted to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna, was gunned down. The trial court had convicted Surajbhan, Munna and Rajan and other accused in 2009.
Patna High Court had acquitted them all in 2014 citing lack of evidence. Brij Bihari’s wife and former MP Rama Devi and the investigating agency CBI had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the High Court’s decision. In the Supreme Court, the bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice R Mahadevan had reserved its decision after completing the hearing on August 22.
The attackers also killed three commandos and a private bodyguard deployed for the security of Brij Bihari. Uttar Pradesh’s famous shooter Shriprakash Shukla was involved in this murder, who was at that time considered to be the shooter of Surajbhan Singh.
