Hindu organizations have called a protest rally against the illegal construction of Sanjauli Mosque.

Shimla: Tensions escalated on Wednesday over the Sanjauli Mosque being built in Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla. Thousands of people attended the protest rally called by Hindu organizations and demonstrated fiercely. According to reports, the protesters broke the police barricades and raised slogans. The situation worsened to such an extent that the police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the crowd. However, people were seen repeatedly repeating their demand to demolish the illegal construction of the mosque. A lot of anger is being seen among the people regarding this illegal construction of the mosque.

How was a 5-storey illegal mosque built?

People who have been protesting for the last several days say that they have complained to the administration several times about illegal construction in the mosque, but no action has been taken. People allege that this is not a matter of any religious place but of legal and illegal construction. When the construction of the mosque started in 2010, there used to be a shop here. Notices were given several times but the construction of the mosque reached 6750 square feet. This land belongs to the Himachal government. However, the Imam of the mosque claims that the mosque is from before 1947 and is owned by the Waqf Board.

‘Women are harassed’

Women of the area have made several serious allegations regarding this 5-storey mosque in Shimla and they say that a madrasa is being run under the guise of a mosque where a Maulana from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh teaches. They said that people are brought from outside to study here who harass women and girls every day. This is the reason why there is a ruckus about the mosque in the capital of Himachal and people have come out on the streets in large numbers. Many Congress leaders themselves are calling the construction of the mosque illegal and are demanding its demolition. Anirudh Singh’s name is prominent among such leaders.

Hearings have been held 45 times since 2010

Let us tell you that a hearing was held on 7 September at the Municipal Commissioner’s office regarding the illegal construction in the mosque. Since 2010, 45 hearings have been held regarding the illegal construction in the mosque, but no decision has been taken. However, during this time the mosque has grown from a two-storey to a five-storey one. Along with this, the population of Muslims in the area is also increasing rapidly. Local people allege that Muslims are coming from outside and occupying the land, due to which the demography of Shimla is changing.
