The attraction of the royal family in Himachal Pradesh has decreased, two members of the family won the election

Himachal Pradesh Election Results 2022: The members of the former royal families of the state, who once held an important place in the politics of Himachal Pradesh, are losing their attraction among the voters. This time in the assembly elections only two of them won the election while the other two lost.

Virbhadra Singh dominated the politics of the state for more than four decades and served as chief minister several times. His wife Pratibha Singh, who belongs to the erstwhile royal family of Keonthal, currently heads the state unit of the Congress. Vikramaditya Singh, son of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh and a scion of the erstwhile royal family of Rampur Bushahr, won from Shimla Rural by a margin of 13,860 votes while Anirudh Singh of the erstwhile royal family of Koti won from Kasumpti seat.

Vikramaditya Singh defeated Ravi Mehta of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while Anirudh Singh defeated the outgoing Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj by a margin of 8,865 votes.

Asha Kumari lost from Dalhousie seat
On the other hand, Congress’s Asha Kumari, who belongs to the erstwhile royal family of Chamba, lost the Dalhousie seat by a margin of 9,918 votes. Earlier, she had won this seat six times in a row. Hiteshwar Singh, a member of the former royal family of Kullu, who stood as an independent, also lost the Banjar assembly seat to BJP’s Surendra Shourie. Hiteshwar Singh got 14,932 votes, Shourie got 24,241 votes and Congress’s Khimi Ram got 19,963 votes.

Pratibha leading the race for the post of Chief Minister
Maheshwar Singh, another member of the former royal family and Hiteshwar’s father, was initially nominated by the BJP as its official candidate. Pratibha Singh, who won the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly on a Congress ticket after her son filed nomination as an independent candidate from the Banjar constituency, and the state president of the Congress party, Pratibha Singh, are frontrunners for the chief minister’s post.
