The doctor was not gangraped, only Sanjay Roy did the crime? Big update in RG Kar case

The investigation into the rape and murder case that took place at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, is ongoing. Meanwhile, there are reports that the CBI i.e. Central Bureau of Investigation has denied the possibility of gang rape in the incident. However, nothing has been said officially by the central agency so far. The police had arrested a man named Sanjay Roy in this case.

According to NDTV report, CBI has denied the possibility of gang rape and said that the evidence points to only Roy being involved. The report quoted sources as saying that the investigation is now in its final stage and the agency may file a chargesheet soon. The Calcutta High Court had handed over the investigation of the case to CBI.

According to the report, the agency has sent the medical report including the DNA sample of the accused to experts at AIIMS. The agency will complete the investigation after knowing the final opinion of the doctor. Talking to the channel, sources also said that the CBI has no reason to believe that anyone else was involved in the rape and murder of the doctor. The body of the female doctor was found in the seminar hall of the college on August 9.

Raids on Sandeep Ghosh’s hideouts

Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials conducted simultaneous searches at the residences of former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh and his three associates on Friday, an official said. Raids were conducted at Ghosh’s residence in Beliaghata and two places in Howrah and Subhashgram. All four are already in CBI custody.

“We reached these places at around 6.15 am and started the raids,” the official told PTI. The ED has filed an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against Ghosh, which is similar to an FIR in criminal cases. On August 23, the Calcutta High Court ordered the transfer of the investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the government hospital from the state-formed Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the CBI.

The decision came following a petition by Dr Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of the hospital, who had requested that the ED be asked to investigate allegations of financial misconduct during Ghosh’s tenure as principal. Ghosh served as principal from February 2021 to September 2023. He was transferred from RG Kar for a short time in October 2023, but returned within a month.
