In the case of murder of a female doctor in Kolkata, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has alleged that the renovation of the hospital was started in a hurry to tamper with the evidence. The Women’s Commission said that the crime scene should have been sealed immediately by the police. The Women’s Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident. The investigation by the National Commission for Women has found that there was a lack of security in the hospital. Apart from this, the infrastructure of the hospital was also very weak.
The NCW has claimed that there were no security guards in the hospital. Interns, doctors and nurses were called for night shifts without any security arrangements. The panel said that attempts were made to tamper with evidence in the hospital. Renovation work was suddenly started around the crime scene. The police should have immediately sealed the crime scene.
Apart from this, there was no separate arrangement for women employees in the hospital. The condition of the washroom was also very bad and there was no proper lighting arrangement there. The Women’s Commission has also raised serious questions on the investigation. Medical College Principal Dr. Dilip Ghosh resigned after the incident. The Women’s Commission said that his interrogation is not yet complete. Referring to media reports, NCW said that on August 10, the Commission had written a letter to the Kolkata Police Commissioner and said that immediate action should be taken.
The Women’s Commission had formed a two-member investigation committee. It included Delina Khondgup and Advocate Soma Chaudhary. The committee reached Kolkata on 12 August. On the other hand, the Indian Medical Association has called for a 24-hour strike on Saturday. As a result, medical services have been disrupted across the country. Doctors of government and private hospitals are on strike. Only emergency services are continuing.
