The price of a cup of coffee prepared from the faeces of the Asian palm civet, also known as the grave badger, is around Rs 6,000. Experts believe that after passing through the intestines of this cat-like animal, the taste of coffee beans becomes much better. This coffee is known as Kopi Luwak. In America, an average cup of this is available for about six thousand rupees.
This is how this strange creature looks
The long, stocky body of the Asian palm civet is covered with thick, shaggy hair. It is generally brown in colour. It has a white mask on its forehead, a small white spot under each eye, a white spot on each side of the nostrils, and a narrow black line between the eyes. The muzzle, ears, lower legs and half of the tail are black with three rows of black markings on the body.
The waist biji has a head-to-body length of about 53 cm (21 in), with a 48 cm (19 in) long unringed tail. Its weight is two to five kilograms (4 to 11 lb). Its anal scent glands emit a vomiting secretion as a chemical defense when threatened or disturbed.
