The protesting junior doctors in West Bengal have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu. The junior doctors have requested the PM and the President to intervene in the hospital case by doing an RG. In a four-page letter, the doctors have requested the Prime Minister and the President of the country for justice. It is worth noting that the junior doctors have been protesting for 35 days in the rape and murder case of the doctor. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called the doctors for talks thrice so far. But the doctors put some conditions, due to which this talk could not take place. At the same time, Mamata Banerjee even offered to resign, but the doctors have not budged an inch.

Junior doctors have written a four-page letter. This letter has also been sent to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Union Health Minister JP Nadda. It is written in this letter that you are the head of the country. In such a situation, we are placing this matter before you. We want justice for our colleague who has become a victim of a very heinous crime. After this happens, we healthcare professionals will be able to serve the public without any fear and apprehension under the West Bengal Health Department. In the letter, the doctors have written that your intervention in this difficult time will act as a ray of light for all of us. You are the one who will show us the way out of the darkness that surrounds us. Aniket Mahato, one of the agitating doctors, said that the draft of the letter was prepared earlier this month and it was sent on Thursday night.

It is worth noting that the strike continues after the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital in West Bengal. Junior doctors are protesting in front of the Health Building regardless of rain and other things. Earlier, despite three attempts by the government in three days, their proposed talks with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee could not take place. Junior doctors have been protesting for the last 36 days against the rape and murder that took place on August 9. Due to this, OPD is not running in government hospitals. The agitated protesters have also refused to obey the Supreme Court’s order, in which they were directed to end their agitation keeping in mind the sufferings of the patients.

The protesting doctors are demanding the resignation of three top health department officials who have been held responsible for signing a letter allowing demolition and renovation around the crime scene in the seminar room of RG Kar Hospital. They are also demanding the resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goel. Around 32 junior doctors returned from the gates of the state secretariat Nabanna on Thursday evening after the government did not accept their demand for live telecast of the talks between them and the chief minister. Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee left Nabanna after addressing media persons, offering her resignation and making a fresh appeal to the doctors to return to work as per the Supreme Court order, after waiting for more than two hours at the meeting venue.
