During Diwali, the rhetoric regarding ban on firecrackers continues in the country’s capital Delhi. Many people are supporting the ban, while many people are saying that this decision of ban is against the festival. Amidst all this, now Aam Aadmi Party convenor and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has supported the ban on firecrackers in Delhi. Kejriwal has said that this is necessary to protect people from pollution.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that there is no ‘Hindu-Muslim’ aspect to the government’s decision to ban firecrackers. Kejriwal has said that Diwali is a festival of lights and it should be celebrated by lighting lamps and candles instead of bursting firecrackers which cause pollution. While talking to the media, Kejriwal said that it is not that we are doing any favor to others. We are doing ourselves a favor because ultimately we and our young children will be victims of pollution caused by bursting of firecrackers.
Let us tell you that in the beginning of the month of October, the Delhi government led by CM Atishi had issued an order to completely ban the manufacture, sale, storage and bursting of all types of firecrackers by January 1, 2025. In this order, online sale and supply of firecrackers has also been banned.
