Ranchi: In Jamua of Giridih district of Jharkhand, there was no one to carry the bier of an elderly Hindu, so the Muslim brothers of his village came forward. They lifted the bier with shouts of “Ram-Naam Satya Hai” and performed his last rites in the crematorium. This initiative of brotherhood is being discussed a lot in the area.
Last procession taken out with musical instruments
In fact, only one Hindu family lives among 30-35 Muslim families in Kazimgaha village, about two kilometers away from Jamua block headquarters. 90 year old Jago Ravidas of this family died on Wednesday. His 85-year-old wife Radhiya Devi is alone at home. He has no children. As soon as information about Jago Ravidas’s demise was received, his Muslim neighbors came forward. The bier was decorated as per Hindu customs and the last journey was taken out with musical instruments. He also declared “Ram-Naam Satya Hai”.
The last rites were performed as per the wishes of the elder.
Jago Ravidas wanted his body to be buried instead of burnt. The people of the village did the same. Abujar Nomani of the village said that Jago Ravidas was one of the oldest people of the village. We all respected him. His last rites were performed as per his wishes. Asghar Ali, Jamaluddin Khan, Enamul Haq, Zameeruddin Khan, Nazmul Haq, Nurul Siddiqui etc. participated in the last journey.
