The NIA Special Court (Bengaluru) on Wednesday convicted two highly radicalized members of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Sub-Continent (AQIS) and sentenced them to 7 years imprisonment. The court has also imposed fine on these culprits. This decision is being described as a major success in the NIA’s continuous efforts against terrorism. These convicts were accused of planning to promote their anti-India agenda through terror and violence.
These people got punishment
According to the information released by the NIA, the NIA court has imposed a fine of Rs 41,000 and Rs 51,000 respectively on Akhtar Hussain Laskar alias MD Hussain of Assam and Abdul Aleem Mandal alias MD Juba of West Bengal in the case. NIA registered a case in this matter on August 30, 2022 under sections 153A, 1538, 1208, 121, 123A, 114 and 511 of the IPC and sections 10, 13, 15, 16, 18 and 20 of the UA (P) Act, 1967. did.
Online handlers radicalized
According to the NIA investigation, both the convicted convicts were radicalized and recruited by foreign-based online handlers of AQIS i.e. Al-Qaeda in the Indian sub-continent. Both members were actively engaged in furthering the activities of AQIS. After being recruited by AQIS, these people joined various Telegram groups.
Jihad was planned in India
NIA investigation has also revealed that both of them had conspired to go to Khorasan province of Afghanistan. Here he wanted to take training. Further, the culprits had planned to wage jihad against members of a particular community in India after undergoing training in Khorasan as part of a conspiracy by AQIS to promote its anti-India agenda through terror and violence. The two were also in the process of radicalizing other youth and recruiting them into AQIS.
