By the way, the three priority corridors under Phase-4 of Delhi Metro had got approval from the Union Cabinet in March 2019 itself and the foundation stone for the work was also done in December 2019. While expanding the Pink Line, the corridor between Majlis Park to Maujpur should have been completed by December 2023. On the other hand, there was a deadline of November 2024 for the remaining two corridors, but now what about 2024, DMRC does not see the possibility of completing the work in 2025. This is the reason why the deadline has been extended till March 2026.
Impact on projects during Kovid
DMRC officials attribute the impact of Covid on work on metro projects and the inordinate delay in getting permission to cut and transplant trees for the construction of the metro line. Due to Kovid, where the work of metro projects was affected for almost a year, its impact was also seen on the tender process and procurement process. Apart from this, for the first time, DMRC also faced delay in tree cutting and allotment of land, which affected the timeline of Phase-IV projects. However, now most of the problems have gone away.
Work continues on the underground corridor
DMRC Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal says that the work of Phase-4 is now going on at a very good pace. The work of making underground corridors through Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) is going on at four places in the city. Recently, a 4 km long elevated viaduct has been constructed on the Janakpuri West-Ramakrishna Ashram Marg corridor. DMRC is trying its best to overcome all the challenges and complete the projects on time.
