Two Bangladeshi citizens arrested in Assam, Himanta Sarma said- sent back

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said two Bangladeshi nationals who had entered India illegally were caught in Assam and sent back to their country. He said the two were caught at Badarpur railway station and sent back to Bangladesh on Friday night. “Assam Police caught two Bangladeshi nationals at Badarpur railway station,” Sarma wrote on Twitter.

The arrested persons have been identified as Masoom Khan, a resident of an area under Modelganj police station in Bangladesh, and Sonia Akhtar from Dhaka. They had reportedly entered India via the Madhopur (Bangladesh)-Agartala route and were headed to Bengaluru, Sarma said.

“The Assam Police in collaboration with the BSF successfully pushed them back across the border last night,” the chief minister said.

On Saturday, Sarma had said that over 30 Bangladeshis trying to enter India without valid documents were turned back from Assam in the past one month. He claimed they were headed to Bengaluru and other south Indian cities in search of work in the textile industry.
