India America News: US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin and Foreign Minister Antony Blinken are on a visit to India. In ‘two plus two’ talks with Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar here on Friday, India has expressed concern over the increasing activities of Khalistanis in Canada. India underlined its concerns at the ‘two plus two’ foreign and defense ministerial meeting.
Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said in a press conference, ‘We have made our concerns very clear.’ The US delegation at the ‘two plus two’ ministerial talks was led by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, while External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh led the Indian side. Kwatra said, “Our main concern is about security and I am sure you all are aware of the recent video of one such person.
American side understands New Delhi’s concerns
He said that the American side understands the concerns of New Delhi. Relations between India and Canada came under severe strain after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made allegations in September over the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in the Canadian city of Surrey last June. Days after Trudeau’s allegations, India temporarily suspended issuing visas to Canadian citizens and asked Ottawa to reduce its diplomatic presence in the country to ensure parity. Canada has already recalled 41 diplomats and their family members from India. India has restored some visa services.
Many issues including security challenges were discussed
Earlier, ‘two plus two’ defense and foreign ministerial discussions were also held in the meeting in Delhi. Apart from Austin, the US delegation also included Foreign Minister Antony Blinken. The Indian side was led by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. After the meeting, US Defense Secretary Austin said, “We are working together on co-production of armored vehicles and this is very important.” In response to a question, he said that various issues including the growing security challenges from China were discussed during the meeting.
