Uddhav faction candidate close to victory in Maharashtra, NOTA running at number two

Rutuja Latke, the candidate of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) has achieved a big lead and it is believed that now his victory is certain. He is facing 6 independent candidates. However, the most surprising thing in these results is that so far NOTA (None Of The Above) has got more votes than 6 other candidates.

Rutuja has the support of Congress and NCP

Several parties had appealed to support Rutuja Latte, after which the BJP withdrew its candidate. According to political analysts, there was no competition on this seat. Rutuja Latke also has the support of the Congress and the NCP, which are partners in the Maha Vikas Aghadi.

This is the first election when Thackeray-led Shiv Sena is fighting with a new name – Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and new election symbol – ‘Mashaal’. The original name and bow-and-arrow are for now with the Election Commission, which named Eknath Shinde’s faction Balasahebunchi Shiv Sena and gave the sword-shield as a symbol.

‘BJP had realized its defeat’

The BJP, however, announced that it was withdrawing its candidate in honor of the Shiv Sena MLA, who had died. On the other hand, Sanjay Raut of Team Thackeray had said that BJP had realized its defeat. He had also said, “BJP conducted a poll which predicted that its candidate (Murji Patel) would be defeated by at least 45,000 votes.” In the last election in Andheri East, Ramesh Latke defeated Murji Patel, who contested as an independent, by over 15,000 votes.
