New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a prayer meeting organized at Gandhi Smriti in Delhi on Monday, on the occasion of the 75th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Many dignitaries including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh were present on the occasion. Famous singer Udit Narayan was singing the hymn ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ in the prayer meeting. ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ was also known as Ram Dhun) for some time. The author of this popular hymn is Shri Lakshmanacharya. The special thing is that it was the most favorite hymn of Mahatma Gandhi.

On this day in 1948, Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead by Nathuram Godse. His death anniversary is celebrated as Martyr’s Day. On this occasion, two minutes silence was observed to pay respect to Mahatma Gandhi, whom the whole country affectionately calls ‘Bapu’. An all-religion prayer meeting was also organized at Rajghat in which Mahatma Gandhi’s favorite hymns were sung and he was also saluted. Students of many schools and people from different sections also participated in it.

Earlier, various leaders including President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the ‘Father of the Nation’ on his 75th death anniversary at the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on Monday. Rashtrapati Bhavan said in its tweet with the picture that President Draupadi Murmu paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on Martyr’s Day and participated in the all-religion prayer at Rajghat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri, etc. are among those who paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.
