New Delhi: The matter of mimicry of Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has heated up. While BJP is accusing the opposition of insulting the Vice President, the opposition has also cornered the government. Meanwhile, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, who mimicked Dhankhar, has given clarification. Kalyan Banerjee said that it was never my intention to hurt anyone. Dhankar Saheb is much senior to me. I don’t know why he took it upon himself. My question is, if he has taken it upon himself, does he behave like this in the Rajya Sabha?
PM also did mimicry: Banerjee
On the mimicry controversy, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee said that I never had any intention of hurting anyone. PM Modi also did mimicry in the Lok Sabha between 2014-2019. The TMAC MP said that mimicry is an art. This should not be seen as an insult to anyone.
Dhankhar said that the farming community was insulted.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said that he has been insulted by the TMC MP through mimicry. The farming community was insulted, my caste was insulted. It is my job to save the dignity of the post.
Congress-BJP attacked each other
Meanwhile, the Congress on Wednesday hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party’s attack on Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee for imitating Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, saying the issue was raised to divert attention from the suspension of more than 140 MPs. A “desperate effort” is being made. The main opposition party has hit out at the BJP after the Vice President’s Office said Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and expressed extreme grief over the ‘indecent conduct’ of some MPs in the Parliament complex.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on the social media platform ‘X’ and said that indiscriminate efforts are being made to divert attention from the suspension of 142 MPs by raising the issue of ‘mimicry’. He said that till date in the history of Parliament, there has never been suspension of MPs on such a large scale.
