Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who recently returned from the Paris Olympics, has made serious allegations against the Delhi Police. Vinesh has claimed that the Delhi Police has withdrawn the security of the female wrestlers who are going to testify against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in court. However, the Delhi Police has rejected Vinesh Phogat’s allegations.
On Vinesh Phogat’s allegations, Delhi Police said, “There is no order to withdraw security. If there is any delay in the arrival of security personnel, it is being investigated.”
Apart from Vinesh Phogat, many other wrestlers including Olympic medal winner Sakshi Malik had accused former Wrestling Association of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment last year. Protests were also held at Jantar Mantar for many days regarding this. Recently, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court framed charges against Brij Bhushan.
After allegations of sexual harassment were made, Delhi Police had filed an FIR against Brij Bhushan, but later the local court granted him bail. However, amid the controversy, BJP cut Brij Bhushan’s ticket in the Lok Sabha elections and made his son Karan Bhushan a candidate from Kaiserganj.
On the other hand, Vinesh Phogat had participated in the Paris Olympics recently and had also made it to the finals. However, just before the final event, her weight was found to be 100 grams more, after which she was disqualified. Vinesh returned from Paris without winning any medal.
