Was Mahalaxmi’s killer inspired by Shraddha Walkar murder case? Bengaluru police apprehension

Many similarities have been found between the murders of Shraddha Walkar in Delhi and Mahalakshmi in Bengaluru. Regarding this, the police suspect that the main accused Mukti Ranjan Roy might have been influenced by the Delhi incident. Many videos related to the Valkar murder case had gone viral on social media. The girl named Shraddha lived in a live-in relationship with accused Aftab Amin Poonawala. Aftab strangulated her to death on May 18, 2022. After this, the body was cut into several pieces and kept in the refrigerator. To avoid being caught, he continued throwing the pieces in deserted places across the city for several days. Later, as the matter came to light, Valkar’s body parts were recovered from different places.

Mahalakshmi was murdered on September 21 in a building in Malleshwaram area of Bengaluru. Accused Mukti Ranjan cut her body into more than 50 pieces, which were recovered from the fridge. Mahalakshmi’s mother and sister got information about the incident when they reached their home on Saturday. The woman’s estranged husband had suspected an acquaintance, who lived alone in his neighbourhood, of involvement in the crime. Bengaluru Police said that there was a love affair between Mukti Ranjan and Mahalakshmi. There were frequent fights between the two when the woman pressured him to marry her and hence the accused murdered her. Both of them worked in a clothes shop and they met there. After this they became friends and had a love affair.

What is the connection with Shraddha Valkar case?

The main suspect involved in the brutal murder of 29-year-old Mahalakshmi committed suicide by hanging in Odisha. He was found dead hanging from a tree in Dhusuri police station area of Bhadrak district. Mukti Ranjan was a resident of Bhuinpur village. Police have also recovered a diary from the spot in which Roy has confessed that after killing the woman Mahalakshmi, she had cut her body into more than 50 pieces. According to the report, Mukti Ranjan stayed with Mahalakshmi’s body the whole night after the murder. He kept thinking how to dispose of it. It is possible that he may have been inspired by the Shraddha Valkar case, due to which he cut the body into pieces with a sharp cleaver knife. He kept them in the fridge and then ran away from there.
