The tension in Manipur that has been going on since May last year is not subsiding. After the rocket attack in Bishnupur, at least five people have died in the violence. This figure may also increase. A police officer said that one person was shot dead while he was sleeping, while four armed men were killed in the firing that followed.
According to the officer, the militants entered the house of a man living alone in a secluded place about five kilometers from the district headquarters and shot him dead. The officer said that after the killing, there was a heavy firing between the armed men of the warring communities in the hills, about seven kilometers from the district headquarters, in which four armed men including three hill militants were killed.
According to information, those killed in the firing belong to both Kuki and Meitei communities. Tension has increased a lot in Manipur for the last five days after the latest incidents of violence. On Friday night, a person was killed in Bishnupur. Apart from this, an attempt was made to loot weapons from the headquarters of 2 Manipur Rifles and 7 Manipur Rifles.
For the first time in the violence that has been going on for the last 17 months, a rocket attack was also carried out. Police said that the Kuki militants also fired a long range rocket. The length of this rocket was said to be around four feet. In view of the violence, the administration ordered the closure of schools and colleges across the state on Saturday. Officials say that it is also possible that ammunition was filled in a long pipe and fired with the help of a rocket launcher.
