Weather update: Effect of cyclone ‘Mandus’ will be seen in South India even today, cold and cold wave will increase in plain states

New Delhi: Due to the icy winds blowing from the Himalayas amid rain and snowfall on the mountains, the plains of North India have been witnessing a steady drop in temperature for the last few days. Mercury is continuously falling in many states including Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. It is getting cold in many areas. Due to Western Disturbance, there has been snowfall and rain in the mountains of Jammu, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for the last several days. Meanwhile, there may be a change in the weather pattern in the next three to four days amid the possibility of Western Disturbance moving ahead from North Pakistan and its adjoining areas. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), it is expected to rain with snowfall in the mountains of Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for the next few days.

Due to the fog in many areas in the morning, the visibility becomes very low, due to which the traffic is greatly affected. Long distance trains are also being hit the most by the fog. Trains are also getting late, due to which the passengers are facing problems. Rain is expected in the states of South India even today. Actually, the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has now turned into a deep pressure cyclonic storm ‘Mandus’.

Many areas including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands have received light to heavy rains during the last 12 hours. As Cyclone Mandus had weakened and lay centered about 180 km northeast of Karaikal, Puducherry and is moving west northwest across Tamil Nadu. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), light to heavy rains are likely to continue over southern states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andaman and Nicobar for the next few days under the influence of Mandus. According to private weather forecasting agency Skymet Weather, a fresh Western Disturbance may bring light to moderate rain and snow over Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh, Jammu Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between today and December 11.
