New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved the report of the committee constituted under the chairmanship of former President Ram Nath Kovind on ‘One Nation One Election’. A proposal in this regard has been passed in the cabinet meeting. Now people’s opinion will be taken about it across the country and then it will be implemented. Meanwhile, the opposition has also started reacting to it. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that ‘One Nation One Election’ is not practical, it is not going to work. When elections come, they talk about all this. But the people of the country are also not going to accept it.
At the same time, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said, I have consistently opposed ‘One Nation One Election’. It destroys federalism and compromises democracy, which is part of the basic structure of the Constitution. He said that multiple elections are not a problem for anyone except Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. Simply because they need to campaign a lot in municipal and local body elections as well. Frequent and periodic elections improve democratic accountability.
