Former veteran batsman Suresh Raina believes that after Suryakumar Yadav, Shubman Gill should get the captaincy of the Indian T20 team. He kept Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya out of this race. Raina not only described young batsman Gill as an ideal candidate for captaincy but also called him the next superstar. According to a PTI report, Raina said at an event, “Shubman Gill is a superstar. Gill is the vice-captain. It means someone is thinking about him. If Gill does well in the IPL and wins the trophy, then he is the future (captain). He will be the next superstar.” Raina also talked about Pant’s return to the Test team. He said, “Pant is playing very well. He scored a half-century in the Duleep Trophy. He is doing good wicketkeeping. When you talk about Test matches, you play it session by session.”
Wicketkeeper batsman Pant played his last Test in December 2022. After that, Pant had to stay away from the game for a long time due to a terrible car accident. He made a comeback to international cricket from the T20 World Cup 2024. He returned to ODIs on the Sri Lanka tour. At the same time, Pant will now be seen playing Tests from Thursday. The two-match Test series between India and Bangladesh is going to start from September 19. The first match will be held at the Chennai ground.
