Who will be the LOP in Rajya Sabha if Mallikarjun Kharge becomes Congress President? These 2 names are discussed

Congress took a pledge of ‘one person one post’ in Udaipur’s Chintan Shivir
If Mallikarjuna becomes Congress President, the post of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha will be vacant.
Any North Indian can get the post to represent the Hindi belt

New Delhi: Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday filed his nomination for the post of Congress President. Now in the elections to be held on October 17, he will have a direct contest with Shashi Tharoor. At the time of Khadke’s nomination, most senior Congress leaders appeared with him and extended their support. In such a situation, it is believed that Mallikarjun Kharge, on the instructions of the high command, decided to contest the election for the post of Congress President at the last minute, as yesterday was the last date for filing nominations. In such a situation, the possibilities of his coronation as the next Congress President are strong.

The Congress had decided to introduce the ‘one person one post’ rule at its ‘Chintan Shivir’ in Udaipur earlier this year. If sources are to be believed, Mallikarjun Kharge will have to leave the post of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha if he becomes Congress President. Now the question arises that if Kharge becomes Congress President then who will be the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha? So let us tell you that two names are being discussed for this post, which include P. Chidambaram and Digvijay Singh. Chidambaram is the senior-most leader of the Congress after Kharge in the Rajya Sabha. Digvijay Singh’s number comes after him. But, one thing that could stand in the way of P. Chidambaram becoming the LOP in the Rajya Sabha is his being from South India.

Wouldn’t the party president and the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha be from the south?
The Times of India in a report quoted a Congress source as saying, “The appointment of South Indian leaders in both the posts of party president and LOP in Rajya Sabha will be difficult, in such a situation when the leader of the party in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Eastern come from India. Rahul Gandhi himself is a member of the Lok Sabha from Wayanad, Kerala. North India, which is very important in terms of members in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, will not see its representation within the Congress. This is not going to be a profitable deal for the party in terms of the 2024 general elections. It is necessary to give representation to a person from the Hindi belt and Digvijay Singh may be the most suitable candidate for this.

Interestingly, till Friday afternoon, Digvijay Singh was seen in full swing to contest for the post of Congress President. He had received his nomination papers a day back and was supposed to file it tomorrow. But, in a dramatic development, he suddenly spoke to the media and announced that he could not contest the election in front of Mallikarjun Kharge, as he was respectable and senior to him. He expressed his desire to be Kharge’s proposal. It is believed that Digvijay Singh must have got some instructions from the high command. Perhaps Digvijay Singh was informed by the party about his influential role in the future, only then he happily refused to contest the election for the post of president.
