Meanwhile, like residents of dozens of eastern Lithuanian towns bordering Belarus, residents of Barvoniske have fled their hometown in recent months, fearing Russia could invade their country as the war on Ukraine continues. Lithuania is a NATO member country with a population of about 3 million. Lithuania is also concerned that its capital, Vilnius, is just 50 km from Belarus.
