Will the pro-Khalistan Justin Trudeau government fall? General elections may be held a year earlier

Justin Trudeau’s government, which has been supporting the Khalistanis, is facing a crisis. The New Democratic Party, which has been in alliance for the last two and a half years, has broken its ties with Justin Trudeau’s party. After this, Justin Trudeau’s government has started tottering. Experts say that mid-term elections can also be held in Canada. In March 2022, the New Democratic Party formed the government by forming an alliance with the Liberal Party. However, on Wednesday, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh said that he is cancelling all previous agreements.

At present, Justin Trudeau’s government wants to somehow survive till the next session of Parliament. The session of Parliament is going to start from September 16. The opposition Conservative Party seems very happy after the NDP withdrew its support. The opposition is preparing to bring a no-confidence motion. Elections were to be held in Canada in October 2025. However, if Justin Trudeau’s government falls, then mid-term elections will have to be held. The Conservative Party feels that it will benefit in the mid-term elections over the incumbent Liberal Party.

Professor Shinder Purewal of British Columbia’s Kwatlen Polytechnic University said that it is not necessary that NDP will support the Conservatives during the no-confidence motion. NDP has definitely withdrawn support from Justin Trudeau’s party. However, it cannot be said that it will support the Conservative Party in future. Trudeau has other options. There is also the third largest party in the House which, if supports, can save Trudeau’s government. It has 32 seats. NDP had only 24 seats.

Trudeau has 130 seats in the Canadian Parliament. He needs at least 9 seats to remain in power. Earlier, Trudeau had the support of NDP which had 24 seats. Now if he gets the support of Quebec Party, Justin Trudeau’s government will remain in power. The Conservative Party has 119 seats. If elections are held, the Conservative Party can also get a majority. Jagmeet Singh of NDP said that Trudeau has disappointed the public. Now he should not get a chance. In such a situation, he is throwing all the understanding into the dustbin.
