Will Vinesh Phogat enter politics, will she fight against her sister? Speculations rife before Haryana elections

Star wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who missed out on winning a medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, may soon enter politics. Vinesh is expected to contest the Haryana Assembly Elections 2024. She may contest against her cousin Babita Phogat. There is also speculation about wrestler Bajrang Punia entering the electoral fray. He may be seen trying his luck against Yogeshwar Dutt. Voting is to be held on all 90 assembly seats in Haryana on October 1 and the results will be declared on October 4.

According to the IANS report, when asked about Vinesh’s future plans, sources close to the Phogat family said, “Yes, why not? Chances are that you will see Vinesh Phogat vs Babita Phogat and Bajrang Punia vs Yogeshwar Dutt in the Haryana assembly elections. Some political parties are trying to persuade them. ” Let us tell you that Vinesh was disqualified from the women’s 50 kg final at the Paris Olympics for being just 100 grams overweight. She was sure of at least a silver medal but had to return empty-handed.

Grand welcome on return to India

Vinesh has recently returned to India from Paris. She was given a grand welcome in India. Apart from star players like Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, Panchayat leaders also arrived to welcome Vinesh. Congress MP Deepender Hooda garlanded Vinesh. Vinesh was laden with flower garlands. She expressed her gratitude to the people by riding in an open jeep. It is worth noting that after being disqualified from the final, Vinesh had announced retirement. However, she has indicated a return from retirement. She said that I do not know what will happen in the future?

Vinesh wrote in a social media post, “All I want to say is that we did not give up, our efforts did not stop, but the clock stopped and the time was not right. Maybe this was my destiny.” She further wrote, “Maybe under different circumstances, I can see myself playing till 2032, because struggle and wrestling will always be in me. I cannot predict what the future has in store for me but I am looking forward to this journey. I am sure that I will always fight for what I believe in and for the right thing.”

‘The fight against WFI will continue’

Vinesh, Bajrang and Sakshi have been protesting against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and its former chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for over a year over the alleged sexual harassment of women wrestlers. Six wrestlers, including Vinesh, sat on a dharna at Jantar Mantar last year demanding action against the former WFI president. Vinesh said that the warm welcome they received has inspired them to move forward. She also said that her fight against the WFI will continue for the betterment of Indian wrestling.
