The final list of candidates will be released on October 8 at 5 pm. If needed, polling will be held on October 17. Counting of votes will take place on October 19 and results will be declared on the same day. More than 9,000 Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) representatives will vote in the election. The last election in the Congress party was held in November 2000 for the post of party president. Jitendra Prasad had lost to Sonia Gandhi in 2000 and before that, Sitaram Kesri had defeated Sharad Pawar and Rajesh Pilot for the post in 1997.
