Narasimhan took over the reins of Swiss MNC Novartis in 2018 and has since been leading the $185 billion (Rs 15,29,000 crore) market cap company. Narasimhan, an American citizen of Indian origin, is the youngest CEO among all global pharmaceutical companies.

Who is Vasanth Narasimhan
While Vasanth Narasimhan was born and raised in the United States, his parents were originally from Tamil Nadu. Narasimhan also worked on child poverty in India during his college days. He adopted healthcare as a career. He received a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Chicago, and an MD from the prestigious Harvard Medical School and a master’s in public policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 1970, his father had reached America from Tamil Nadu.

Narasimhan began his career with McKenzie & Company, Inc. He joined Novartis in 2005 and served in various leadership roles at the pharma giant for over a decade. In between, he also worked at Sandoz International. According to the Novartis Annual Report 2022, Narasimhan’s total released compensation was over Rs 75.5 crore.
