New Delhi. Advisor to the Prime Minister Tarun Kapoor said on Tuesday that the government will come out with a policy to introduce public transport system in most of the cities of the country and the electric vehicle industry can expect massive support in this area. Addressing a program organized on electric transport here, Kapoor said that due to the lack of public transport in most of the cities of the country, the government is now going to come up with a policy to promote it.

In this policy, the government will try to discourage diesel-powered vehicles and promote electric vehicles. He said that with the coming of the policy to promote public transport in most of the cities of the country, the electric industry can expect comprehensive support from the government for itself.

Number of diesel buses will be less
Kapoor, a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, said that in this process of change, not only will diesel buses be phased out, but we will also see more electric vehicles in public transport. However, he also urged the EV industry to pay special attention to innovation in order to take advantage of this opportunity in a big way, so that the size of batteries can be reduced along with reducing the cost of electric vehicles.

Crude oil is imported on a large scale
India is largely dependent on imported crude oil for its transportation needs. India imports 85 percent of its requirement of crude oil and 50 percent of natural gas, on which a large part of foreign exchange is spent. Kapoor emphasized on increasing the use of electric vehicles in the two-wheeler segment as well to reduce the consumption of petrol along with diesel. He said that we are very clear about the fact that in the next five-seven years there will be hundred percent change in the two-wheeler segment.
