No worries about refund if booked online
If you have booked railway ticket online then you do not have to worry about its refund. If the train is cancelled, the money for your ticket will automatically come to the source account. You do not need to do anything for this. Railway promises 7-8 working days for refund but usually most people get refund within 2-3 days.

TDR will have to be filed after taking ticket from the counter
If a railway ticket has been purchased from the anan ticket counter and that train is canceled due to any reason, then your ticket will be considered as cancelled. For its refund, you need to file TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt). After this you get a refund for the railway ticket.
How to file TDR?
For refund of railway ticket through TDR, you will first have to visit the official website of IRCTC. Here you have to login. Go to the TDR link and submit it by entering the PNR number, train number and captcha code. Then OTP has to be entered. Then you will see the complete details of PNR. After that click on the option of refund. After this a confirmation message will be sent on your mobile screen. Then you have to give the details of the bank account in which you want to take the refund. By completing this process, you will get a refund for the canceled train ticket.
