New Delhi. The days of getting a mobile SIM card easily in the country are now coming to an end. In order to prevent frauds through SIM cards, the government is now going to tighten the rules for obtaining SIM cards. At present, any person can get a new SIM by showing any one of 21 types of documents. But, now the government will increase the number of these documents to 5. The new rule may come into force soon.

According to information received from sources by CNBC Awaaz, this step by the government will make it difficult to get SIM cards through fake documents. Asim Manchanda of CNBC Awaaz said that now it will be difficult to get SIM cards anywhere easily. The government has made up its mind to tighten the process of KYC. That’s why it is now reducing the number of documents used to get the SIM. New rules related to SIM may come into force in 10 to 15 days.

SIM is available on these documents
At present, any one of the 21 documents can be used to get a SIM in the country. These include documents like Aadhar Card, Voter Card, Passport, Ration Card, Electricity Bill, Arms License, Driving License, PAN Card, Ration Card, letter of MP or MLA, Pensioner Card, Freedom Fighter Card, Kisan Passbook CGHS Card, Photo Credit Card. With the help of SIM card is available.

SIM will be available only on 5 documents
Fake SIM cards are being used extensively to commit financial frauds and to carry out criminal incidents. To prevent this, the government will tighten the rules for getting SIM cards. Now any person will be able to get SIM card only from Aadhaar, Voter Card, Passport, Ration Card and Electricity Bill.

Even opening a bank account will not be easy
The government can also increase the strictness on opening a new bank account. At present, to open a new account in any bank, through online e-KYC, the details are verified from Aadhaar. But soon the government may make physical verification mandatory for this work. Actually, for the last few years, the cases of fraud in banks have increased rapidly. According to a report by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the amount stuck in such cases in 2021-22 was Rs 41,000 crore.
