Story of Mokshada Ekadashi
There was a worthy and majestic king named Vaikhanas in Gokul Nagar. Once he saw his father suffering in hell in a dream. He was very sad to see this. The next day, telling this to his learned brahmins, he asked the way to get rid of his father from hell. On this the Brahmins advised the king to go to a sage living on a nearby mountain. Hearing this, the king went to the hermitage of sage. Where he bowed down to the sage and told his dream and asked the way to get rid of his father. Hearing this, the sage closed his eyes and meditated. Knowing everything with the power of yoga, he told the king that your father had given Rati to one wife in his previous birth, but on the advice of his step-in-law, he did not give Ritudan even after asking for another wife. Because of that sin, your father had to go to hell. Telling the solution, Muni said that O Rajan! You fast on Marshish Ekadashi. Make a resolution and give the merit of that fast to your father. With its effect, your father will definitely be freed from hell. After saluting the sage, the king returned to his palace. Then, according to the advice of the sage, by fasting on Ekadashi along with his family, he offered his virtue to his father, with the effect of which the king’s father got freedom from hell.
