Railway Knowledge: How many tickets can be booked at a time on General and Tatkal quota? Know the rules before making a reservation

General, Sleeper Class Non AC, AC Three Tier,First Class etc. The facilities, fare and rules for booking tickets are different in all these categories. Passengers can book train tickets 120 days before the date of their journey. At the same time, tickets can be booked a day before the journey from Tatkal quota. But, do you know how many tickets you can book at one go under Tatkal quota or general quota? If you do not know then know today. Every passenger must know this rule related to ticket booking.

A passenger can book only 6 tickets at a time in General, Sleeper Class, Non AC and such class. To book tickets more than this, some special procedures have to be followed. Although, Indian Railways provides the facility of booking bulk tickets, but for this special permission has to be taken. Second, bulk tickets cannot be booked online.

Tatkal Quota Rules
If the train ticket is not confirmed or in case of emergency, immediate ticket booking can be done. Let us tell you that the Tatkal ticket charge per passenger is higher than the normal ticket. No refund is admissible on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets. As per railway rules, a maximum of four passengers per PNR can be booked on Tatkal e-ticket. This means that you can take tickets for four people at one time on one PNR. However, you will have to pay the charges for all the four tickets. Tatkal AC ticket booking starts at 10 AM while Non AC ticket booking starts at 11 AM. You can book it a day before the start of the journey.

You can book 24 tickets in a month
There is also a limit for booking tickets online from one user ID in a month from Indian Railways. IRCTC’s user ID which is not linked to Aadhaar, can book 12 tickets in a month. Earlier only 6 tickets could be booked. It was extended only last year. At the same time, a maximum of 24 tickets can be booked in a month from the user ID linked to Aadhaar.
