What is the method of Govardhan Puja?
Govardhan Puja has great importance in Hinduism. For this, first the picture of Govardhan with cow dung is made in the courtyard of the house. After this, Lord Govardhan is worshipped. Akshat, Roli, Jal, Milk, Batase, Paan and Kesari flowers are used in this worship. Lord is remembered by lighting a lamp near the picture of Govardhan. It is believed that if Lord Govardhan is worshiped by law on this day, then Shri Krishna showers blessings on his devotees throughout the year.
Story behind Govardhan Puja
It is believed that when Lord Indra’s wrath increased on the people of Braj, to protect them, Lord Krishna lifted the huge Govardhan mountain with his little finger, so that thousands of creatures and humans could take shelter under it. To crush Indra’s pride, the Lord had shown his divine pastimes and also worshiped Govardhan Parvat. Since then every year on this day people make Govardhan in their homes.
