The holy festival of Shardiya Navratri has started. Today is the fourth day of Shardiya Navratri, and this day is dedicated to Maa Kushmanda. On the fourth day of Navratri, there is a law to worship Mother Kushmanda, the fourth form of Goddess Durga. When this universe was not created and there was darkness all around, then Goddess Kushmanda created this universe with her humor, hence Goddess Kushmanda is also called the Adishakti of the universe. Maa Kushmanda has eight arms, hence she is also known as Goddess Ashtabhuja. Maa Kushmanda destroys all the sufferings and diseases of her devotees. How did the mother get the name Kushmanda?

First of all know that how mother Bhagwati got the name Kushmanda, Kushmanda means pot. Maa Durga appeared in the form of Kushmanda to save the world from the tyranny of the demons. It is believed that if a pot is sacrificed during the worship of Maa Kushmanda, she becomes very happy. Due to her association with the universe and the pot, she was named Kushmanda and since then Mother Bhagwati Devi is famous as Kushmanda.

The seven hands of the goddess are adorned with kamandala, bow, arrow, lotus flower, nectar-filled urn, chakra and mace respectively. In the eighth hand, the chanting rosary is equipped to give all the siddhis and funds. Goddess Kushmanda bestows the blessings of longevity and good health to her devotees with the nectar urn in her hand.

1. In Navratri, first of all wake up in the morning after taking bath and if possible wear green or orange clothes for worship of Maa Kushmanda.

2. After that worship Goddess Kushmanda by worshiping the Kalash.

3. Now light a lamp of ghee in front of the idol of the mother and offer water and flowers to her.

4. Red clothes, red flowers and red bangles should be offered to Goddess Kushmanda.

4. Offer green cardamom, fennel and quince to Maa Kushmanda.

5. Now chant the mantra ‘Om Kushmanda Devyai Namah’ 108 times, perform the aarti of Maa Kushmanda and of course take the prasad after feeding a Brahmin.

In Sanskrit language, kushmand is called pumpkin and kumhare, from which petha is prepared. Petha made from pottery is also very much liked by Goddess Kushmanda, so she should offer petha as prasad. Apart from this, pudding is also considered auspicious in the enjoyment of Maa Kushmanda.
